Station Log
It's not so bad being the attendant of an Eldritch Monitoring Station. Like the old-time lighthouse keepers, you need to be able to entertain yourself, and you need to be able to handle the solitude. But the demands of the job itself are relatively light.
I don't even have to watch the sensor readings. The recon drones are configured to activate automatically if the equipment detects an increase in supernatural energy. If there is a spike, one or two drones, depending on the size of the energy surge, will leave their cradles and fly directly to the source of the signal. The stronger the surge that's detected, the faster they fly to get there. Once they reach the location, they transmit video and telemetry back to the station. That's where I take over, reviewing the data and identifying the most likely cause of the readings. Then I file a report.
It's actually been pretty quiet over the last six months. I've had two or three cursed bears wander by. Not much to do then. For a while there was a druid camping out right near the edge of the detection limit, so I had a couple of alarms over a week or two. Seemed like a good guy, from what I could tell through the drone feeds.
At the moment, however, I think I'm dealing with something a bit more powerful than a druid. I've never seen all six drones activate at the same time, and I was amazed to find out the little fuckers could break the sound barrier. So, I'm pulling the alarm. I hope I get a chance to file a follow-up report.
